GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE HS BIO-TEC ONDOMINIUM SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT
The Condo STP system is based on the High-Speed Bio-Tec biodegradation and sedimentation technology. This system is unique due to its compactness and Bio Media performance efficiency. We combine two technologies in a prefabricated, skid mounted and standardized tank system with variable length, suitable for overseas transportation in ISO freight containers.

FEATURES

  • Self-Cleaning non-clogging media with 20-year warranty
  • Able to handle nitrogen/ammonia reduction
  • Easy to relocate and install
  • Water can be used for irrigation
  • Fully automatic and easy to operate

Standard systems are designed for indoor location in closed rooms with draft ventilation or may be placed outdoors with natural ventilation. Since the systems are excessively aerated, odor is negligible.

DIMENSIONAL  CRITERIA
Treatment plants must be specified based on actual measurements of the waste stream to be treated. Specific requirements include hydraulic load, suspended and dissolved organic material, and the applicable local effluent requirements. However, sufficient statistical information is available for small community municipal wastewaters to utilize the term "Person equivalents" Pe.

A system specifically designed for condominiums and smaller residential areas, this plant is based on the following data:

Wastewater flow Qw 100 GDP/Pe
Suspended solids TSS .29 #/day/Pe
Organic matter BOD .25 #/day/Pe
Nitrogen N .04 #/day/Pe
Phosphorous P .002 #/day/Pe

CAPACITIES
The Condo STP system is manufactured in lengths of 6 feet increments in order to meet specific needs. The basic 15', 21', 27’, 33’ and 39' length systems with 3 chambers, have the following nominal capacities at a guaranteed effluent of 30 ppm BOD as daily average:

Model: 15CON3 21CON3 27CON3 33CON3 39CON3
Capacity (GPD) 20,000 30,000 48,000 60,000 75,000

Note: Additional units can be added in parallel as your needs increase, or for multi-phase projects.

Systems with COD effluent requirements or denitrification requirements will normally require longer retention time and will consequently have less capacity then shown above. Such systems will be designed as customized systems based on the customer’s influent analysis and discharge requirement.

PRE-SEDIMENTATION SYSTEM
The sewage piping system should end in a customer provided equalization basin and primary settling chamber, which separates paper, sanitary binds and settleable solids. The buffer capacity must be sufficient to level out the daily peak flows. The combined holding capacity of the system should be 12-16 hours, depending on the flow profile.  The total buffer capacity is 1/2 of the total volume. A customer supplied sludge holding tank should also be provided that will hold ¼ of the total flow.

BIOLOGICAL TREATMENT SYSTEM
The treatment plant will take suction from a submersible grinder pump supplied with the unit. The pump is level controlled and has a capacity, which is 2-3 times the average daily flow. The plant operates in an intermittent working mode for hydraulic flow, while the air blower supplying air to the bioreactors is continuously running.

The biodegradation reactor comes in two or three stages depending on required cleaning efficiency.  Plants with higher cleaning efficiency, due to ammonia/ nitrogen removal for example, require a five-stage system. The bioreactors degrade the dissolved organic matter by oxidation into carbon dioxide, which escapes to the air, and produces biomass. A suspended, free-floating biofilm carrier medium provides a large, protected biofilm surface as host for the bacteria that is simultaneously accumulating the active biosludge inside the reactors. If denitrification is required an NH4 reactor and an NO x anoxic reactor is added to the configuration.

The biodegraded and if required denitrified water flows into a clarification stage where the suspended solids settle by gravity. The water is directed through a skim well chamber which is aerated and then to a plate settler system, which provides the final clarification of the effluent.  For systems with high cleaning efficiency requirements, the sedimentation may be enhanced by addition of polymers.

SLUDGE SEPARATION SYSTEM
The sludge pump is activated each time the feed pump stops, with suction from the clarification stage and biochambers. The pump discharges through a hydrocyclone with the overflow back to the bioreactor, while the underflow is discharged to primary sludge storage. When necessary, the sludge is emptied from the sludge storage chamber by a vacuum truck and hauled away for external treatment.

EQUIPMENT SPECIFICATIONS
The basic system contains the following standard equipment
:

  • A mild steel tank consisting of  ¼” plate with a framework of square pipes and vertically stiffened sides and partitions. The tank is internally and externally coated with epoxy to prevent corrosion.
  • Free floating plastic biofilm carrier medium in each bioreactor. The reactor is 2/3 filled as standard, with 100 square feet of biofilm surface per cubic foot of reactor volume.
  • A plate separator system of 60 degree inclined PVC plates in the settling tank. Three plates per foot length, projected area 5 square foot per square foot tank surface.
  • One separate drive regenerative blower with air header and air distribution system. Air filter/silencer on the blower inlet, muffler on the outlet for flow regulation.
  • Two open impeller, stainless steel, close coupled centrifugal process pumps with carbon/ceramic mechanical seal and viton elastomers.  Wastewater pipes in galvanized steel and/or PVC as required.
  • One mechanical mixer for denitrification when required.
  • One multifunction chemical dosing pump for foam control during start up, pH adjustment or nutrient supply as required.
  • One main electrical switchboard/control panel with start/stop buttons and running lights. Automatic start/stop of process pump on high/low level.
